Grow in Grace, Gift and Glory

Grow in the grace (2 Peter 3:18)
(Message by Pastor Joseph, Founder NLMI. Happy growing!)
It’s a privilege to be in God’s house to worship Him in the beauty of holiness. Didn’t we sing that song today – “… the Darling of heaven crucified, Worthy is the Lamb!” This is one of the song that touches my heart, when we sing it. Do you want to be one of the ‘darlings’ in heaven? Be ready to be crucified! Paul says, “I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me;” [Gal. 2:20].

If the Lord tarries, we have to be with Him. Are you ready? The doors of heaven open to welcome us. We know Jesus as the great Advocate- sitting at the right hand of the Father. But do you know that Jesus stood up to welcome Stephen home? And so the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and Himself for me.

In her biography Daughter of Destiny, Kathryn Kuhlman says “… from the platform to the pulpit, I die a thousand deaths”. This is what we learn- to die daily. I say this also because, from my seat to the pulpit as I come, the matters that I must talk about sometimes changes radically. I say we must prepare and come, but also wait for God to minister through us. It’s 90% perspiration and 10% inspiration. As you are filled inside with God’s word, it bubbles in you so much that the ‘Rhema’ word comes forth from God. That is why I say, you must read God’s word; study God’s word; meditate God’s word; memorize God’s word; and obey God’s word. There are no shortcuts to nearness to God. And if you do these you will be like the tree planted by the rivers of water that will bring forth its fruit in season, whose leaves will not wither and whatever you do shall prosper.

I am here today, because I have been invited to speak. And today our son- Philip, completes 48 years. And especially during this time, my memories go back to the time of his birth. And when I heard the news of his birth there was gladness, as well as sadness; gladness- because a son was born, and sadness- because he was born pre-mature and weighing just 4½ pounds. Of course, there were a lot of people praying for him, and now as we see him here, there is no trace of pre-maturity. And our hearts abound with thanksgiving as we see him in God’s service. And this is what we teach- to seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things- these basic necessities of food, clothes and shelter, will be added (and I mean really ADDED) to you. David made this observation when he was ‘old’- I have been young and now am old; but I have never seen the righteous forsaken nor his children begging bread.

Solomon, on completion of the temple glorified God in the words found in 2 Chr. 6:10. And this is the promise I want to give to Philip: “So the LORD has fulfilled His word which He spoke, and I have filled the position of my father David, and sit on the throne of Israel, as the LORD promised; and I have built the temple for the name of the LORD God of Israel.

John 1:14 says: And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth. Now glory is ALL that GOD IS and ALL that GOD has REVEALED to us. In John 17, Jesus says “And now, O Father, glorify Me together with Yourself, with the glory which I had with You before the world was.” And in the Mount of Transfiguration, there was the glory cloud covering Moses (representing the Law) and Elijah (representing the Prophets) and Jesus (representing the fulfillment of both the Law and the Prophets). Now where is this glory? It is not found in creation; it is not in the created, but it is the redemption glory- the mystery of Christ in you, the hope of glory. How can it be increased or brought out? 2 Cor. 3:18 says: But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.
The Tabernacle (from http://www.the-tabernacle-place.com)
Do you realise that there are many today, even among the believers, still having their faces veiled? The veil is taken away only when we turn towards Jesus. This is by choice- to look at Jesus, who is full of grace and truth. And we walk in His light, in the light of His glory, and our veil is taken away! If you are willing and obedient, you shall eat the good of the land [Isa. 1:19]. Remember, we started with the ‘darlings’ of heaven- then love your enemies. Someone said that we have to bring our friends closer; but our enemies closest! Apart from John, remember who was closest to Jesus? Judas Iscariot- the betrayer. Jesus entrusted him with responsibility (hey, he was the treasurer) knowing fully well, he was going to steal the money and finally betray Him!
Growth in the Christian life is not automatic- it is by choice each day! It is to die to the world and live to the Spirit one day after another. Otherwise, it is possible to see some people remain in the same level even after 20y, 30y or 40 years- or they would have become worse too! We must learn to progress from grace, to gift, to glory (or from consecration, to character, to communion; or from body, to soul to the spirit living); just as the model of the tabernacle, where the progress is from outer courts to the Holy place and then to the Holy of Holies.

In the outer courts, there is a sacrifice to be made- do you imagine that the animal to be sacrificed willing comes to the altar and lays itself down? It is the place of judgment, where, because of the sacrifice we are brought near to God by grace. It is surrender of our body. And in the Holy Place, there is the show bread, the golden altar of incense and the candle-sticks. This place represents our soul part- the bread representing our mind (or intellect), the golden altar of incense- our will, and the candle-sticks- our emotions. We are brought near by the renewing of our mind- the building up of our character. Paul says in Phil. 4 “whatever things are true, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy-meditate on these things” (Phil. 4:8).

We progress further into the Most Holy Place (Holy of Holies), because the veil is torn in Jesus Christ and we have direct access to the glory of God. This is a place of communion with God. By position, we are already in this place; but practically, we must learn to die daily and go on from outer courts into the Most Holy place. This is a spiritual exercise we must do! Rev. 12:11 says: “And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death.” If you want to be an overcomer, all these three parts are essential- the blood of the Lamb, the word of your testimony, and not loving your lives to the death!

Somebody told me that there are 2 kinds of believers- one, who wants to give, give and forgive; the other who wants to get, get and forget! Where do you find yourself in your relationship with Christ and His church? Do you want to give… or..?

Growth is from grace, to gift and to glory. Romans 12:1-8 gives the details of our spiritual growth-path.

1. Reasonable service is to present your bodies- a living sacrifice
2. Renew your mind and be transformed, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
3. Recognize your gifting and your place in the body of Christ (each one has a measure of faith) and
4. Responsibly use the gifting in the house of God (verses 6, 7 and 8).

Be Confident

(Message by Pastor Philip Joseph. Continue in confidence!)

“For we are the circumcision, who worship God in the Spirit, rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh…” – Phi. 3:3

We have no confidence in the flesh; we- who worship God in the Spirit and glory in Christ Jesus. If we look at the world around us, we see people who lack confidence in themselves; people who even give up on life because they can’t face it any longer. And there are seminars, counselling sessions given to them to boost their self-confidence. And there are also people who are so self-confident that it borders on arrogance.

But there is the third category of people who have no confidence in the flesh; only they are God-confident. This is such a higher way of living- confident of those things above, having our focus upward and rejoicing in hope. This is our privilege that we can live our lives with a tremendous confidence in God. This is my burden today to share with you, the confidence that we have in God. If you are feeling down, let His word today infuse the God-confidence into your very soul, and into the lives of your children, and into all those you come across. “That they may set their hope in God, and not forget the works of God, but keep His commandments;” (Psalm 78:7)

In this world, there will be difficulties. Yes, there will be frustrating times, stressful situations and painful circumstances. But in all these tribulations, we can be people of good cheer, and keep walking that straight path because of our God-confidence. Our God-confidence is not some imaginary, feel-good, lofty stress-busters; but is found in the rock solid foundation of God’s word.

  1. Be Confident in Coming to God
“…Christ Jesus our Lord, in whom we have boldness and access with confidence through faith in Him.” – Eph. 3:12

People in the Old Covenant did not have this boldness; they fled from God’s presence. They needed mediators- priests and high priests, who shared God’s word with them, while they themselves stood far off- in the outer courts, and did not dare come before God. Only the priests ministered in the holy place; and only once a year the high priest entered the Most Holy Place, near the presence of God with the blood of the sin offering.

But now, we have the confidence {boldness} to enter the very Presence of God- into the Holy of Holies, by the blood of Jesus (Heb. 10:19).

What a privilege! We have boldness to be near God. Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need. [Heb. 4:16]

At the throne of grace- in the Most Holy place, there is fullness of peace; like a river, it does not cease.

Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
Look full in His wonderful face;
And the things of the world will grow strangely dim
In the light of His glory and grace.

  1. Be Confident Before God (Be Confident Your Prayers will be answered)
Not only do we have confidence to come to God, but we can have confidence before God. (and be confident that our prayers will be answered).

Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him.” [1 John 5:14, 15]

Do you hesitate to ask something from God? If there is any lack that has to be fulfilled in your life, and you know that it is God’s will to experience that fullness in your life in accordance to His word, you have full freedom to ask of God! Remember, He is our Father, who desires to give good things to His children- whether job, or marriage. Yes, He desires you to prosper in everything just as your soul prospers; He is able to bless every single work that your hand labours in; He is interested to proceed with the things in accordance to His will to choose, and settle you with your spouse.

When you have the consignment number and details of the package that has been sent to you by courier, you know for certain that it is coming! It is much the same way with God and His word. With eyes of faith, we can see the answer even before it comes; the details of the package is already addressed and given to you-His holy word. Come before God in confidence.

  1. Be Confident In Your Prayers
Elijah was a man just like you and me. The Bible says that he was a man with a nature just like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it would not rain; and it did not rain… (James 5:17). His words to king Ahab were this: “As the LORD God of Israel lives, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, except at my word.” (1 Kings 17:1). Our God lives; and if you stand before Him, you can stand before any Ahab in your own lives! Your prayers will be answered- therefore be confident.

  1. Be confident of God’s Provisions
Hebrews 13:5, 6 says: Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said: “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” So we may boldly {confidently} say: “The LORD is my helper; I will not fear. What can man do to me?”

I know many of you can say this: “The Lord is my helper” But the thing is- you can say it without confidence or you can say it with FULL confidence. He is our Protector; He is our Guide; He is our Helper. He is with us; He will never leave us. He is Jehovah Jireh-our Provider (in the mount of the LORD, it will be provided). Is anything too hard for the LORD? I need to look at the birds of the air; seek Him first, and all that I need will be added to me. “For in the time of trouble He shall hide me in His pavilion… He shall set me high upon a rock.” (Psalm 27:5).

David in Psalm 27 expressed his full confidence in God- for He had experienced first hand God’s protection, while he was a shepherd and while he was a king surrounded in battle by his enemies. Now what stops you? Be confident.

  1. Be confident in your service to the LORD
2 Cor. 3: 4, 5 says: And we have such trust through Christ toward God. Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think of anything as being from ourselves, but our sufficiency is from God …

On our own, we are inadequate; but our sufficiency comes from Jesus Christ our Lord. Therefore what we do in Christ matters; and it is for you to step up and be counted for service for whatever God calls you to do. Peter and John were only uneducated fishermen; but they boldly preached salvation in the name of Jesus, saying “there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.” (Acts 4:12). Acts 4:13 continues: Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were uneducated and untrained men, they marvelled. And they realized that they had been with Jesus.

Have you been to Jesus for the cleansing power? Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb? Have you spent time with Jesus and feel His power moving in you? Stand up in service! Be confident.

Come to God; No problem is too big that He cannot solve it! No circumstances insurmountable that you should shrink back. Come before him; Take it all to our Lord in prayer. God will provide; You see, it always makes me think while I fly over Vashi, to see from above and realize how small the place really is; a fact that we fail to see as we drive around in dense traffic- then the road is just too long and the place looked so big! Now, how do you think God sees your problems and worries? The more you mount up on wings like eagles, the problems that looked big pale into insignificance.

Let me close with this verse from Hebrews 3:6: “… hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm to the end.” God Bless You. Amen.

Global Day of Prayer

(Led by Pastor Philip Joseph. Join us in this soulful praying! For more info visit the "Global Day of Prayer" website www.globaldayofprayer.com)

This Sunday (Pentecostal Sunday) is commemorated as the Global Day of Prayer, where believers from around the world can look up and cry out to God with one voice - even while gathering together in the local church, whichever part of the world they may belong to. The voice of our cry is of repentance from sin, turning from wickedness and humbling ourselves before God, and pray the prayer for our land, and lands that need God's touch through His Spirit's outpouring and for our whole earth to filled with the knowledge of the glory of God as waters cover the sea. And God, according to His promise in 2 Chr. 7:14 will hear from heaven and heal our lands.

It is a privilege for us- as God's people, to lift our hands and our hearts, together, in prayer. Because it says, "If My people, who are called by My name, humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and heal their land."

And in this age of  widespread information-dissemination of world events, we can know of what is happening to believers-in-Christ in any part of the world. And in knowing of their plight- whether of persecution, affliction or marginalisation, we can pray an effective prayer that will bring in God's protection, intervention and power into their lives; that we may be equipped as one church- pure and strong, for the soon-coming of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.

Now, according to your heart's burden and desire in the Lord, you can pray the prayer for the nations of the world, and the nation of India.

PRAYER FOR AMERICA:
  • Pray that Americans would understand and heed the fact that our nation's strength comes from God, not from ourselves.
  • Pray that authentic Christians would model Christ's love and grace in workplaces throughout America.
  • Continue to pray for the portions of the nation that is experiencing Tornados, flash floods and other natural disasters
  • After the death of Osama Bin Laden, USA is under plans of terrorist activity by Al Qaeda , pray that any plans for terrorist activity would be thwarted and that any would-be terrorists would be apprehended.
  • Pray that our nation's leaders would make wise decisions regarding the war on terror in Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya and Pakistan. Pray that they would instead work together to develop the wisest course of action
  • Intercede for our troops serving in Afghanistan, Iraq and throughout the world. Ask the Lord to comfort, protect and guide them.
PRAYER FOR ISRAEL: Israel is one of the nation that is close to the heart of God, Through out the history of bible, Israel is critical in the plan of God. Israel’s desire and hope for peace remains as constant as her enemies’ desires for her death and destruction. Israel needs continued prayer for Angelic hosts to encamp around the Land.
  • Pray that the Lord to show Your mercy and favor to Israel in this set time. (Psalm 102:13)
  • Raise up government leaders in Israel (and worldwide) who will not seek to "divide the land," and who would recognize the unique significance of Jerusalem in God's end-time purposes.
  • He who scattered Israel will gather him, and will keep him as a shepherd keeps his flock. (Jeremiah 31:10) Father, continue to draw the Jewish people to you according to Your sovereign plan.
  • Destroy and divide the tongues of those who would incite violence against Israel. (Psalm 55:9) In the name of Jesus, we bind every false religion and false doctrine that does not acknowledge Your eternal plan for the land and people of Israel
  • The Lord brings the counsel of the nations to nothing; He makes their plans of no effect. (Psalm 33:10) We declare that God's purposes for Israel will be completely fulfilled and that He will be glorified.
PRAYER FOR LIBYA: Fighting and Disunity Run Rampant. Libya is divided into tribal factions of whom the majorities fight with each other. These tribes continue to hate each other and remain in disunity. There is severe fighting taking place right now which results in loss of human life.
  • Pray for God's rule and peace would come upon all the places where affected by war.
PRAYER FOR EGYPT: After Hosni Mubarak stepped down, both Coptic and Evangelical Christians took to the square to conduct mass and worship openly for the first time in a long time. The Christian community, however, is still divided. Some are happy with revolution, and some are afraid of it. Some Islamic groups are also excited about the possibilities for Egypt’s future. Despite division and poverty in the country, doors are now open for true reform to take place at the highest levels of government. This means a greater future for many Egyptians.
PRAYER FOR SUDAN: Since 2005, when the Comprehensive Peace Agreement was signed and their civil war was ended, Sudan has seen a steady decrease in violence and political tension. A recent referendum for independence paved the way for Southern Sudan to become its own country on July 9, 2011. To this point, President Omar al-Bashir has seemed cooperative and peaceful throughout the referendum process. Many Christians living in the north are moving to South Sudan in hopes of starting a new life. Along with them goes a majority of the Christian influence in this predominantly Muslim region. Recently, many churches in the North have worked together to distribute one million copies of the Gospel of Luke to help ensure that the Word of God will stay even if they do not.
PRAYER FOR THE ARAB WORLD — UPSIDE DOWN: On December 17, 2010 a Tunisian street vendor, Mohamed Bouazizi set himself on fire to protest his mistreatment by police, he couldn't have known the effect it would have on the Arab world. His act of self-immolation set off a storm of unrest that swept across North Africa and the Middle East. Street demonstrations have since erupted in Morocco, Algeria, Libya, Egypt, Yemen, Jordan, Iraq, Iran, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, and Yemen. Entire governments have been toppled and others are in danger of falling. What began as an individual act of protest grew into a multinational revolution. In a matter of weeks the Arab World was turned upside down.
The world stands amazed. Many in the nations where demonstrations are taking place are frightened by the violence and worried about their uncertain future. Even some Christians are living in fear. But what if these events can and are being used to advance the Kingdom of God? What if instead of a great tragedy or threat, we are seeing a door open for the Gospel to be preached in some of the Arab countries.
Prayer served as a chief catalyst to the Arab world revolution. For decades, intercessors have been focusing their attention on the 10/40 Window. And we are now seeing the results. History is being made. And those who have labored in prayer have become history-makers.
  • Pray For the Kingdom of God to come Middle East with great power, signs, wonders, miracles, dreams, and visions.
  • Pray that the events taking place today to become opportunities for the Gospel to be preached to previously Unreached people in places like Libya, Morocco, and Iran.
  • Pray that the Lord to raise up leaders who will honor Him and lead these nations into political, financial, and spiritual freedom.
  • Pray that the Lord to capture the hearts of the youth who are so discontented. Pray for them to realize they cannot find satisfaction in anything or anyone but Jesus Christ.
  • Pray for the Christians in the nations in turmoil to be strong and courageous.
  • Pray for the Lord to surround them with His angels and empower them to share their faith with boldness.
PRAYER FOR NEPAL — SOURCE FOR HUMAN TRAFFICKING: Nepal's sparsely populated land hidden from the rest of Asia by the Himalayas has become a source country for human trafficking. It is estimated that between 10,000 and 15,000 Nepali girls and women are trafficked into India each year for the purpose of sexual exploitation and involuntary servitude. Another 7,000 are trafficked to South East Asia for the same purposes.
Some of the victims of this criminal activity are tricked into traveling by the promises of a job. Others are kidnapped. But it is also common for parents or relatives to sell their children and young girls into the sex industry. Another factor in the selling and trafficking of girls and women in Nepal is the deukis system. Deukis means "girl offered to god , the locals are convinced by the local priests that if he gave his daughter to the temple, the gods would look favorably on his kingdom and their problems (natural disasters and disease) would be solved.
  • Pray that the government of Nepal to realize how serious this problem is and begin taking steps to combat it. Pray for the Lord to move leaders to take up the cause of the oppressed and defenseless.
  • Pray for an end to the demonic practice of deukis. Ask the Lord to reveal Himself to those in poverty as Jehovah Jireh — the-LORD-will-provide.
  • Pray for them to be convicted by the Holy Spirit, to repent and put their faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.
  • the Lord to deliver victims from slavery and prostitution. Ask the Lord to heal their minds, bodies, and souls.
PRAYER FOR THAILAND — TRADING IN PEOPLE: Some call it a "trade." Others refer to it is an "industry." Whatever the term used to describe human trafficking, it is flourishing in Thailand. "People are bought and sold — children too. According to agencies involved in tracking human trafficking, Thailand is considered a source, transit, and destination country. Major trafficking routes run between Thailand and neighbors like Laos, Cambodia and Myanmar. Many victims are teenage girls who end up in prostitution. Large number of women and girls from Burma, Cambodia, Vietnam and eastern Europe are transit through Thailand's southern border to Malaysia for sexual exploitation.
Despite the threat of prosecution and long prison sentences, the practice of human trafficking is rampant and quite profitable with as many as 400,000 prostitutes under the age of 19. Both human trafficking and HIV greatly threaten human development and security. Among the root causes for this problem in Thailand and throughout the world are lust, greed, and poverty.
  • Pray that the victims who are suffering, trapped, and hopeless. Pray for the Lord to deliver them from this oppression
  • Pray that the people (mostly men) who are satisfying their own lusts at the expense of the physical, emotional and spiritual health of others (mostly women and children).
  • Pray for them to turn from their sin and seek forgiveness in Christ.
  • Pray that the government of Thailand to continue to take serious steps in shutting down this destructive industry.
  • Pray that the Gospel to be preached and demonstrated in Thailand, setting free all who are in bondage to human trafficking, as well as false religions.
PRAYER FOR Maldives – Opening a Closed Nation: Maldives is a small island nation approximately 985 miles southeast of Sri Lanka It is a long-time stronghold of Islam. It is number 6 on the Open Doors World Watch List 2010 of the world’s worst persecutors of Christians. As Open Doors points out, “Islam is the official state religion and all citizens must be Muslims. Sharia law is observed, which prohibits the conversion from Islam to another religion.” Missions work and Christian worship are forbidden and can result in deportation or loss of citizenship. The Maldives is a “closed” nation gripped tightly by the lies of Islam. Because of the laws and spiritual atmosphere, it remains one of the least reached nations in the world.
  • Pray for expatriate Maldivians who are in other nations where they have greater opportunity to hear the Good News.
  • Pray that they will encounter fellowships of worship that preach the uncompromising Word of God, and that their first experience with believers would be a positive one.
  • Pray that when the indigenous church is established in the islands, the leaders will have the wisdom to incorporate local music and creative arts as part of worship to God.
  • Pray that church in Maldives ( brothers and sisters) will gather to worship and sing God’s praises freely in their churches.
Pray for PAKISTAN: Pakistan Minorities Minister Shahbaz Bhatti, the cabinet's only Christian minister, was gunned down by four assailants in broad daylight in the capital Islamabad. Shabaz had received death threats for urging reform of the blasphemy law. This law carries a death sentence for anyone who insults Islam. The Governor of Punjab, Salman Taser, was also killed by his own police guard who felt he was being blasphemous in opposing this unjust law.
The situation looks grimmer as the extremist forces working in Pakistan are making it harder to oppose this law or propose any reform of this discriminatory law. This law is a sword of death hanging over every Christian as any one out of animosity can accuse you of blasphemy. Before you can be taken to court to prove your innocence, they will kill you with help of extremist mobs. During trial or in prison, you can also be killed by the police assigned for your protection.
Prayer Points for Pakistan:
1. For unity among Christians/church leaders and denominational barriers coming down.
2. For abolition or repeal of the blasphemy laws and for the Christian brothers and a sister who are in prison facing trials, falsely accused under this law.
3. For safety and security of brothers and sisters who live under constant threat of being persecuted under the blasphemy laws, especially in Punjab.
4. For sustainability of 24/7 and other prayer watches that are going on, that the Pakistani church will understand the power of corporate prayers, and that churches will move into a culture of prayer.
5. For a spiritual awakening of the church on a national level so that the gospel can spread across the country.
6. Pray for the end of different types of shortages that are occurring in Pakistan: water, electricity, natural gas, food commodities like, cooking oil, sugar etc. That the government will take sincere measures to resolve these issues which are making the everyday life miserable.
7. That the rising extremism and radicalization will be curbed and that the strong- holds of terrorism in the country will be destroyed.
8. That the Pakistani church will be especially focusing prayer against corruption in all spheres of life and praying for the strongholds to be taken down.
9. For the peace and an end to all violence.
10. For the Christian converts and Pastors who are from Islam are disowned by their families.

Yet the women in India are treated as the second rate citizens and the recent Supreme Court verdicts states girl child in India as a liability. Girls living in Urban and Semi Urban regions are very vulnerable to harassment, eve teasing, rapes. Illegal Trafficking of Women is one of the thriving industries in our nation. The other major area of concern in regard to crimes against women is dowry harassment and deaths.

Children are becoming decision makers in the family. “Children under the age of 15 make up nearly 40 percent of our population. The bitter fact is that only less than 1 % of the money is spent by the church and ministries across India to evangelize and target the children.
There are several unfolded challenges for the children in the nation. Government says 12.59 million children are child laborers. India has the largest number of child laborers in the world. These children work as Domestic servant / Baby sitters, Sales boy / girl, in Match and cracker industry , Sweet shops., Carpet factories , in hotels as cleaners / helpers, in automobile repair helpers, as beggars and also in child Prostitution.
There are approximately 2 million child commercial sex workers between the age of 5 and 15 years.
  • Pray for new life for these beggars. Adopting these children in Christian homes, Children homes are some options.
  • Pray for ministry like YWAM, COME and other ministry and catholic institutions which serve these children.
  • Pray for Christian TV channels which will target the children to educate the child in moral and ethical living.
Right to Information Act: On of the bright spots of the present central government is the enactment of Right to Information Act- This act provides as the vital tool to fight out corruption in the land.
RTI Act - An Act to provide for setting out the practical regime of right to information for citizens to secure access to information under the control of public authorities, in order to promote transparency and accountability in the working of every public authority, the constitution of a Central Information Commission and State Information Commissions and for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto.
  • Thank and praise God for the Prime Minster Shri. Manmohan Singhji and their team for bringing this law.
  • Pray that more and more people will be able to utilize this law to make this nation a corrupt free nation.
  • Pray that every citizen will be aware of this law and utilize this law.
  • Pray that the government and the police will protect the people who stand as the protector of this law.
Terrorism: Terrorism is one of the major challenge this world is facing right now. In India nearly 70% of the Terrorist incidents are reported in Jammu and Kashmir. National Security Advisor has said that there are as many as 800 terrorist cells operating in the country
Most of the terrorist organization aim is to destabilize is the Indian Economy and wage a so called ‘holy war’ against India. Indigenous Kashmiri groups as well as the Pakistani jihadi groups operating in India cite the holy Koran as justification for their jihad against the government of India and the Hindus. Recently the government identified many Hindu Terrorist organization which also carry Arms and Ammunitions to destroy the secular fabric of the nation.
  • Pray for God’s rule and peace would come to India.
  • Pray that God would forgive our sins and protect all Indians from terrorism
  • Pray that all evil plans of terrors & their organization should scatter.
  • Pray that God would reveal His power to all terrorists and saved them
  • Pray that government should take wise decision and to tackle terrorism
  • Pray the people involve in terrorism will leave the arms and terrorist activities.
Suicides: Family problems, unemployment, failure in examinations, poverty and dowry disputes are reasons for people succumbing to the urge to commit suicide. Over 1,00,000 people die by suicide in India every year (contributes 10% of suicides in the World). Suicide is also due to increase burden of debts and to loan problem . Banks are to be blamed to a large extent for providing loans so easily. The customers fall trap and take huge loans and when they are unable to pay they end up taking the drastic step. More and More farmers in the states of Maharastra, Karnataka and other states committed suicides in the last few years due to crop fail ( due to insufficient rainfall) and increase of debts
One of the shocking news is that more and more children under the age of 13 are committing suicides due to increase pressure to excel in their academics. Most suicide cases in the city are related to stress; several patients, especially from the IT and BPO industry, complain that they are unable to survive with their work. (Extended work timings, competition and, most importantly, insecurity at work are contributing to an increase in people's stress levels Family conflicts, domestic violence, academic failures, and unfulfilled romantic ideals.)
  • Pray for God’s mercy upon all people & prevent them from suicide
  • Pray that God would reveal Himself to these kinds of people graciously. Pray that those people should be saved and work for His Kingdom
  • Pray that people in worries and depression should come to presence of God and get great joy
  • Pray for the salvation of hopeless people living in the world
  • Pray for deliverance of people who are in problem like stress, debt issues etc.
  • Bind all unclean spirits cause suicidal thoughts and push into wrong decision
Persecutions: The church and Christian ministries in the state of Karnataka is facing countless persecutions in the last few years. The BJP party is coming against the church by implementing stringent laws to curb the Christian ministries work in several parts of the state. Many false cases were booked against the Christian workers in the state . The government target the Christian run social units like women and children homes , schools and other social institutions Recently a Christian opposition group entered into 'New India Church of God’ and stopped Sunday worship, and frighten ministers of God. Civil society members protest serial attacks against Christians in Karnataka. At least more than 200 anti-Christian attacks across 29 districts in the recent years in the state. Persecutions are increasing in the state of Madhya Pradesh, Orissa, Maharashtra, Chattisgarh and Rajasthan.
The types of persecution involves demolishing the church properties and attack the church members. Interrupt the church services by attacking the pastors and drag them to the police station in the name of conversion. The minister of God stopped to do the ministry by putting them in jail, not allowing the churches to open which are newly built. Restriction on the prayer meetings conducted at houses and churches.
  • Pray that might hand of God would meet Christian opposition people who stop ministries by attacking Christian leaders, believers
  • In the midst of tribulation, ministers of God and people should live a witness life and build the kingdom of God with more zeal.
  • Pray that all the power of darkness should be bound which stands against the revival of this state.
  • Pray that abundant people should come to the church
  • Pray for the Anti- Conversion law to be removed from the States of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Orissa, Arunachal Pradesh, Chattisgarh
  • Pray that this law should not be implemented in the states of Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh and Karnataka.
Marginalized People in India: People are pushed to margins of the society due to physical sickness, economic reasons, social reasons. They live in ghettos or slums. These people need the gospel also.
AIDS victims: AIDs awareness in the churches is necessary. The victims are rejected by the society. The drugs that can provide some relief is very expensive and beyond the reach of many.
Lepers: Pray for these people who around begging for money. Their children also are rejected by the society.
Handicapped – Visually handicapped, Disabled, Deaf and dumb, and Mentally retarded.
Church and handicapped: Pray for the handicapped to be integrated in the society, for education and employment opportunities. Churches should have ramps for these people to come for worship. Sign language should be used in worship services to help them. Special services for such people should begin in the city.

Learning In The Rain

(Message by Pastor Philip Joseph. Enjoy the monsoon in Mumbai!)

It is monsoon time in Mumbai! The rains bring lot of cheer among us-Mumbaikars, and there is the much needed relief from summer heat. What do the rains remind you of?

Today, I would like to share from the word of God on – rains; and what it means to us!

1. Blessings

If you look at Deut. 28:12, it says: “The LORD will open to you His good treasure, the heavens, to give the rain to your land in its season, and to bless all the work of your hand. You shall lend to many nations, but you shall not borrow.”

This chapter in the Bible tells us of God’s blessings to the children of Israel, if- and when, they walk in obedience to His word. The children of Israel are the descendents of Abraham- the original recipient of the promise of God’s blessings. We are inheritors of all these promises by faith in Christ Jesus. Therefore when we walk in obedience to His word, and see the rains in its season, we must be people who are reminded of God’s promise of blessings to us- His children.

This passage in Deut. 28:12 reveals God’s heart and intention, to open to us His good treasure and bless us with rains from the heavens; and bless us in that we do- in the work of our hands; and bless us with financial security- that we may lend to many nations. What a privilege to have a God who seeks to bless us!

God says in Ezek. 34:26: “I will make them and the places all around My hill a blessing; and I will cause showers to come down in their season; there shall be showers of blessing.”

God, the true Shepherd will lead us to that blessed place of pastures, water and rest in the mountains of Zion, the city of God; and there shall be showers of blessing! Not bits and pieces of raindrops here and there- the mercy drops; but the full throttle downpour of blessed rain.

So the next time you look up and the dark clouds in the sky, and experience the downpour, remember God’s promise of blessings to us all- His children and find your security. How great is our God! Happy are the people who are in such a state; Happy are the people whose God is the LORD! [Psalm 144:15]

2. Loving Kindness

We need to be reminded also that we are sons of God- and there are conduct rules for His children. Jesus in Matt. 5:44, 45 says: “But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and the unjust.”

We ought to love, not just friends and believers, but also enemies. And learn to bless those who curse us… because we are sons of the Father in heaven. If God so desired, he could have sent rains only to the chosen- (as He made a difference in Goshen during the time of Moses); but He chooses to send rains on the just as well as the unjust.

Beloved, it is so easy to love only your friends who love you; and to find fault and always be critical of your enemies. But even in your workplace, if you have a difficult boss, who is unjust, we can consider the rains from our Father in heaven- and learn to be patient in love. Forgive people who have hurt you; do not sulk and do not keep grudges against anybody. Be merciful and kind to all! [See also Luke 6:35]

3. Trials

At the end of the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus concluded with this illustration of the foolish man and the wise man: The foolish man built his house upon the sand; but the wise man built his house upon the rock: [Matt. 7:25] and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock.

Where are you building your house? Sooner- than later, the rains will descend. We will experience trial by fire and by water. Jesus said, “In the world you will have tribulations, but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.” [John 16:33]. Trials are mandatory- It proves to you God’s great faithfulness. And the Lord has promised that in the midst of trials He will protect us. No trial will be too great; and no trial will is too unique. (Do not think, only you have this trial!) 1 Cor. 10:13 says: No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.

If you look at the previous 12 verses of this chapter (1 Cor. 10), Paul talks about the journey of Israelites from the land of Egypt to the Promised Land- examples from Old Testament. All those who came out of Egypt had seen God’s mighty hand of deliverance- how He had sent the plagues on Egypt while spectacularly protecting the land of Goshen- where Israelites dwelt; how He had trounced the Egyptian army in the Red sea. They all had the same spiritual food- Manna from heaven and water out of a rock. But when Moses sent 12 men to spy on Canaan, 10 of them said that the land they were about to possess is good, but there were giants in that land and that they themselves were like grass-hoppers; and we will not be able to displace them. Only two of them- Caleb and Joshua, withstood them and said that they were indeed able to go up and possess what God had promised. And we know of how all of their (-Caleb and Joshua’s) peers perished in the wilderness.

Think about it: If God had so desired, He could have made it easy for the Israelites: God could have driven out the inhabitants beforehand and all they had to do was just walk into the Promised Land. But in the wisdom of God, He has allowed us to go through trials; that we may be refined and become as pure gold. Remember Caleb and Joshua- and the different spirit they had; and we ought to be like them! Look up at the rains- if you are facing trials in your life just now. Know that there is a way of escape, God has made for you. Remember all that He had done for the Israelites and for you in the past; He is faithful to lead us in the future. Only be strong and very courageous [Joshua 1:9].

4. Prayer

James 5: 16, 17, 18 The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much. Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it would not rain; and it did not rain on the land for three years and six months. And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth produced its fruit.

We can learn prayer in the rains! I remember we were driving when the first monsoon showers hit Mumbai. It was getting really difficult to drive, and we parked our car on the side of the road, and prayed. God heard our prayer; the rains subsided, and we drove again arrived at our destination right on time!

Elijah was a man- just like you and me. He prayed in accordance with God’s word, that God will shut the heavens, if the people turn to do evil and wickedness. And the Lord heard the prayer of Elijah and stopped the rains. But then the people repented, and the false prophets and foreign gods were put away- on that great day in Mount Carmel. And Elijah prayed again- in accordance with God’s word, remembering His promise to open the treasure house of heavens and send rain- and God heard the prayer of Elijah, again.

You know when Elijah prayed for rains, after those 3½ years of famine, there was not a single cloud in the sky- like we do have now in Mumbai; and we know that the dark clouds will bring us the rains. There was no ‘earth simulator’ during the days of Elijah- with weather predictions and forecast- like we have now. There was a severe drought; the land was on the verge of economic collapse. But because of the effective, fervent prayer of Elijah, there was the sound of abundance of rain, from a cloud as small as a man’s hand!

There shall be showers of blessing! Do you see the rains? Remember that

  • God is keen to bless you, bless your work and give you financial security
  • God is calling you to love the just and the unjust
  • God is making a way of escape out of your trials; be strong and courageous
  • God is calling you to pray the effective, fervent prayer. Amen.
